We are happy to launch the #SRHRactivistsStories 2018
We will be sharing stories from SRHR activists from around the world, so we do hope you can use them as source of inspiration for your advocacy work. The first sotry comes from Sharaf, orginally from Tajikistan, currently based in Thailand who has more than 8 years of advocacy experience in the youth SRHR field.
Here is the 2nd Youth Advocate for 2018:
I’ve been working in the field of SRHR advocacy for almost 10 years, primarily focusing on comprehensive sexuality education and youth friendly services. During that time I had many ups and downs, days full of motivation and energy as well as meetings after which I felt disappointment and powerlessness. But there is one situation I’m always coming back in my mind that makes me a firm believer that what we do is more than import, is necessary. I’ve been on a birthday party years ago and some my friends were making fun of my engagement in SRHR field. So I’ve started to ask them questions I was usually asking kids in schools- question after question they’re less entertained and more curious. Some of them were ashamed of their obvious lack of knowledge. They were all in their mid-20s, but were as lost when it came to talk about sexuality as teenagers. That was the moment I realized we all can be advocates - it doesn’t take more than a strong will to make a change
