Today on the 26.07.2017 the staff member of Regional Movement Avers and a member of Youth Coalition for Sexual and Reproductive Rights, Evdokia Romanova have received a phone call from the governmental authorities. She was invited to the police department to submit her witness testimony on an identified case (the nature of the case was not clearly explained to her during the phone call).
In the police department the case investigator informed Evdokia that she is under the police investigation for the case of administrative penalty (second part of article 6.21) Code of Administrative Offenses (propaganda of nontraditional sexual relationships by using social networks and Internet). She was asked to sign the case protocol. Evdokia was not allowed to read the case materials at first, she had to put her lawyer on the phone in order to get acquainted with the case materials. According to the case materials Evdokia was reposting the posts on her facebook profile from the facebook groups of Youth Coalition for Sexual and Reproductive Rights and The Guardian. The content of the posts was related to the topic of human rights of LGBT people in the Russian community. Evdokia have disagreed with the case charge and she rejected to submit her testimony as a Defendant (according her Constitutional right, Article 51).
Movement Avers supports Evdokia in her disagreement with the charges. According to the position of Avers in the actions of Evdokia the was no motivation to “spread the information that is shaping unconventional sexual attitudes”, “the attractiveness of non-traditional sexual relations”, a “distorted view of the social equivalence of traditional and non-traditional sexual relations”, or “the imposition of information on non-traditional sexual relations that causes interest in such relationships”. According to the position of the governmental authorities it is not restricted yet to speak about rights and freedoms of sexual minorities, the information about homosexuality ,and the discussion of all related issues are recognized and protected.
Regional Movement Avers considers that the attention or regional authorities towards Evdokia Romanova is caused by her human rights work, Those actions are done with the purpose of threatening her, it has no legal basis, and hopefully this case will never be supported by the court. We are calling on the campaign on supporting Evdokia Romanova, we are opening a dialogue and the space for public statements from the regional and international human rights organizations.
